An electric jigsaw machine is necessary in any home carpentry workshop, because thanks to it, straight-line and curly sawing of workpieces made of wood, metal or plastic takes much less time than if you perform similar work using a manual household electric jigsaw.
You can make a convenient and practical DIY home-made jigsaw machine from an old compressor from a refrigerator or freezer (the piston in this engine performs reciprocating movements), as well as materials that are easy to find in a workshop or garage.
Machine manufacturing process
First of all, using an ordinary flat file, it is necessary to remove all protruding parts on the piston and housing. Then, in the center of the piston, you need to drill a hole and cut a thread in it.
Sometimes there are pistons with thin walls (1-2 mm thick), in which it is not possible to cut threads. In this case, it is necessary to disassemble the compressor, remove the piston, clean it and weld to it a steel plate of suitable size and diameter. Then the engine is assembled in the reverse order.
The compressor itself from the refrigerator is attached to two corners, after which it is installed on the base. As the base, you can use a piece of sheet metal of suitable sizes or, for example, a section of channel 27P, the sole width of which is 27 cm.
The main stages of assembly of the machine
The motor housing is installed on the base, after which the corners need to be scalded (or you can fix them on bolts with nuts). The upper lever of the jigsaw machine is made of two profile pipes 40x20 and 20x20 mm. The mechanism of tension of the saw blade can be made of springs, nuts and steel bars with a diameter of 8 mm.
The frame for the desktop is made of sections of a profile pipe 40x40 mm. The electrical part of the engine can be protected with a plastic bottle with a capacity of 5-6 liters, after cutting it in half.
