Using a simple home-made conductor, you can make wave-like decorative elements from ordinary steel wire, which are widely used in the art of forging metal in the process of creating various designs: fences, window bars, fencing, etc.
For the manufacture of the conductor you will need one bearing (depending on the diameter, the radius of the "wave" may be different), as well as a piece of steel channel of suitable size, which will be used as the base of the device.
Conductor manufacturing process
First of all, it is necessary to cut the outer race of the bearing into two identical parts - for this we take the Bulgarian with a cutting disc in our hands and cut the race in half. The edges of the halves must be filed or on a belt grinder to remove bumps and burrs.
Next, we weld two parts of the bearing cage to the channel sole, exposing them in the form of a “wave”. Please note that it is necessary to scald the parts only from the inside, since the outside will be used as a template.
It is also necessary to weld a nut to the channel (near the first half of the bearing race), which will serve as a stop for fixing and aligning the steel wire. At the last stage, we clean the surface of the conductor with a grinder, after which you can use the device for its intended purpose.
Homemade conductor must be installed in a vice, after which we take a round wire or square bar, and give the workpiece the desired shape. Using this device, it is possible to produce both wavy decorative elements and ordinary curls.
