A homemade scythe-serpent with a handle, made of an old shovel, is suitable for mowing grass, pruning branches of bushes and stunted trees in a summer cottage or personal garden. Unlike a traditional braid, a serpent braid is more compact and can be held with one hand.
A homemade scythe-serpent consists of two main elements: a cutting blade, which in shape resembles a sickle, but the blade is bent inward a little less, and also a wooden handle (a shank or it will be more correct to call it a scythe).
First of all, the master removes the shovel from the holder and cuts off a little less than half from it - with one shovel you get two blanks. Then the cut part will need to be heated with a gas burner and trimmed on the anvil. Next, the master processes the workpiece with an angle grinder.
The process of making braids
At the next stage, the author gives the workpiece the necessary shape, cutting off the excess grinder. With a petal circle, he makes sharpening a braid.
It is imperative to harden so that the streamer is more durable. The master heats the scythe red-hot and lowers it into a container with oil. Before hardening, two holes must be drilled to connect to the wooden handle.
After hardening, leave in an electric oven and finish sharpening the blade. Well, then a wooden handle is made. It connects to the braid knife with rivets. If desired, the tavern can be covered with mineral oil.
